Here, As Promised
Another smoothie! This one has a caramel-butterscotch flavor. Yummy!
Caramel-Vanilla Smoothie
3/4 cup cottage cheese
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup sugar-free caramel or dulce de leche coffee flavoring syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 ice cubes
Throw everything but the ice in your blender. Run till it's very smooth and frothy. Then drop in the ice cubes, one at a time, and run the blender till they stop making noise. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy.
You could make this totally butterscotch-y by added a drop or two of butter flavoring -- I'm going to buy some butter flavoring and try this!
This should have 162 calories and 6 grams of carb, more or less, depending on the cottage cheese you use. 23 grams of protein -- about the same as three eggs.

Smoothie
Just tried this this morning...really good!
I ended up using sugar free Coffee Mate vanilla caramel powder...pretty tasty.
Quarter cup was way too much (for me)- but I still slurped up every drop - can't wait to experiment with more flavors....
Regular low carb protein drinks are getting a little drab for me (although the carb count is much less)...but think of the cost savings by making your own and not as many preservatives.
Thanks Dana !!! You are awesome.
Protein shake with cottage cheese
I have been using the cottage cheese as an additive with protein powder in shakes. I was hesitant, thinking that the cottage cheese would overtake the flavor of the chocolate protein powder. It didn't at all! Great idea Dana~
FABULOUS!! Thank you, Dana!
I have been making these for the past three days and they are wonderful! I love how light they are, yet they keep you feeling full for a long time. We've been using different flavor syrups (mango, black cherry.. yum) and leaving out the vanilla, and they are still terrific! It seems perfect in the morning, especially before working out. My daughter is having one for dessert right now, so they are good all the time. :)
A good source for Torani syrups is 'Smart & Final' or 'Cash & Carry' stores, if you have any nearby. I found a huge assortment (well over 10) of the SF syrups there for under $5/ea! Even found a knock-off brand splenda sweetened Caramel for $1.50!
Thanks again, Dana! These will keep me going all summer!

YUM!!
I made one of these after my morning yoga class. Instead of vanilla, I added half a cup of coffee leftover from this morning and one more ice cube. It totally rocked! It's much creamier than the smoothies I normally make with protein powder.
Dana, do you have a source for different varieties of DaVinci sugar-free syrup? The only ones I can find in the stores are caramel and vanilla. I'd love some dulce de leche syrup in my afternoon iced coffee!
DaVinci Syrups
Netrition.com has had the best price and shipping charges that I've found for these syrups.

I see Walton Farms sugar and carb free products in abundance at most food stores. I use their salad dressing and preserves, chocolate and carmel syrups and they are pretty good.
Yummy Smoothie!
Wow is this good! I wanted to mention that here in Wisconsin we can get Calorie Countdown again too. It's not in as many stores as it once was, but at least it's available. I love the new cottage cheese approach for smoothies, but the ones from your smoothie book that include the chocolate calorie countdown are my absolute favorite -- I can't seem to get the same effect with cocoa powder and sweetener. They might be better with the cottage cheese though -- yogurt and chocolate don't seem to go together very well for me.
